GE Lighting Makeover!

Press Sample

Hey guys! My blog has come out of retirement to share something pretty cool that I had a chance to try out.  No, it's not nail polish or make up - but it IS related!

I was approached by GE Lighting to give my bathroom a lighting makeover.  I didn't think I needed one, I mean, I certainly had lighting in my bathroom.  I knew that nothing is quite as good as natural light, and since I don't have a window in my bathroom, I am definitely reliant on my over the sink lighting.  When ever I tried to take a swatch pic in my bathroom on a cloudy day or after the sun is down, I would notice that my skintone looked off.  So maybe I DID need a lighting makeover!  Boy did I!

Here's some before pics of my bathroom - nothing fancy going on here:

Now check out the AFTER pics with the new GE Reveal bulbs:

Both pics are taken with my iPhone and both with just 2 bulbs.  WOW I really couldn't and still can't get over the differences!  I've lived in this place for over 3 years, and this was the first time that I realized that my bathroom wasn't cream colored!  Seriously.

Ok.  Now here's the big reveal....this one BLEW me away when I saw the side by side pics.

Here's a swatch pic of OPIs Warf! Warf! Warf! and a Zoya Carter accent nail, before and after my GE Reveal lighting makeover - both pics are taken in the same location, minutes apart from each other, on the same day:

WOW!  The pics really speak for themselves.  It's really no wonder that my makeup looked off whenever I left my home - my skintone is completely different with my old lighting!

Here's some official info about the bulbs, right from GE themselves:

GE Lighting releases Groundbreaking New LED light-bulb as part of the GE reveal® Brand

This fall 2013, GE Lighting released a groundbreaking LED light bulb as part of the GE reveal® brand, engineered to have the same familiar size and shape of an incandescent bulb but deliver big energy and cost savings. By January 2014, traditional incandescent light bulbs will no longer be manufactured in the United States due to their energy inefficiency and changing energy regulations. The new GE reveal® LED is a great alternative to incandescent bulbs, in addition to various other energy-efficient light bulbs that GE already currently offers.

The new reveal® LED bulbs provide the same benefits of all GE reveal® light bulbs including:

*filtering out dull yellow rays of most bulbs, enhancing the colors and patterns within your home
*providing crisp white light that brings out colors, making whites appear whiter,
reds redder, and allows patterns throughout your home to pop
*filling rooms with enhanced, vivid surrounding light

The new GE reveal® LED light bulbs also are the best energy-efficient light bulbs available, lasting more than a decade based on three hours of use each day. They are offered in 40- and 60-watt replacements, as well as a popular BR-30 shape for recessed fixture down-lighting.

The Most Expensive Nail Polish In The World!

No, I'm not talking about Chanel.  I'm talking about a new polish from Azature...yeah, I didn't know who they were either.

I'm not one to usually post Press Releases, but I couldn't resist sharing this one that just landed in my inbox.

So how much is the most expensive nail polish in the world & what makes it so?  Read on...

July 2012, New York City – To the one-percenters, listen up because AZATURE is shaking up the fine-jewelry world with the launch of AZATURE Nail Polish. Toted as the most expensive nail polish in the world, AZATURE Nail Polish is the latest offering from the black diamond king.  This celebrity and royalty designer is bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “dripping in diamonds” by introducing this ultra-luxe product to the beauty market.

Retailing for $250,000, the exclusive AZATURE Nail Polish contains 267 carats of black diamonds, assuring that the woman who wears it really is the chicest of them all.  Limited to just one bottle, it also makes it a one-of-a-kind, limited edition item from the world of AZATURE.

For those that can’t afford the $250,000 price tag, Azature created polish that will contain a real black diamond and retail for $25.  Packaged in a .5 oz / 15 mL diamond shaped bottle, the nail polish is offered in AZATURE signature black and coats on with a glittery sheen that resembles the sparkle of an AZATURE diamond.

“The black diamond is the ultimate fine jewel. Its combination of beauty, mystery, and sophistication makes it a timeless luxury. One day I thought, ‘why not showcase this style on nails?’ So I developed a Black Diamond Nail Polish with the same attention and quality as my jewelry, in order to preserve the elegance of the black diamond. I am thrilled to offer this new twist on fine-jewelry!”

The lower-priced nail polish will be available to consumers at Fred Segal beginning August 2012.

There you have it.  A cool 1/4 mil for a bottle of polish.  Makes that bottle of Chanel or Clarins 230 seem like pocket change.

Cult Nails: Untamed & Big Ruby Nail Tattoos

I have one of my favorites from the upcoming Cult Nails Untamed collection that was created by Maria's, soon to be 13 year old daughter, Coco. (whew that's a mouth full!)

I never would have guessed that a bubble gum pink with multi color shimmer would EVER be a favorite of mine, but Cult Nails polishes seem to have that affect on me. Their Devious Nature (a pink with berry undertones has quickly become one of my go to colors and was a gateway for me to horde, I mean, try all sorts of other pinks).

Untamed (both the name of this polish AND the entire collection of 5 polishes) is a squishy jelly. That means it's sheer and will take more coats to build up to full coverage. Here I used 4.

I topped it off with one of the new Big Ruby nail tattoos from their "Her's" pack. (Speaking of gateways, Big Ruby tattoos were my gateway into stamping!)

The Cult Nails Untamed collection is available on July 11th (Coco's Birthday!) I'll have swatches of the other colors soon...I'm out of remover!!! A HUGE faux pas!!!

4th of July Mani featuring Julep America and Cult Nails Nevermore

This is a test - this is only a test....unless it actually works! I'm testing out the Blogger app for iPhone for the first time so let's see how this goes.

I wanted something easy but flashy for my 4th mani and this combo fit the bill perfectly!

The base color is none other than Cult Nails Nevermore. The perfect one coat, super shiny black (and it also happens to be a polish that I named!)

It's topped with Julep America. A surprisingly dense glitter - loaded with fine red, small silver hex and 2 sizes of blue hex glitters - peppered with silver stars. Out of my entire mani, I was only able to get 2 stars on my tips but I was ok with that because the points were a little raised. I hope Julep comes out with more multi sized, dense glitters like this. America is so far my favorite Julep polish to date - and it was FREE in this month's Julep Maven box. You can't beat that!!

I absolutely love how this turned out. It's dramatic and super easy to do (each polish was only one coat).

Ok, so the test went well - I'm typing this now from my computer.  I jumped on to see how it turned out.  Not too bad.  Formatting options are limited at best.  The photo was added fine, but there was no option to add a caption, to select a size or for placement within the post. All in all, it's great for a quick post on the go - but if you like to manipulate your post a bit, you might feel limited using the Blogger app for iPhone.
